After Chinook, Comes Apache: Indian Air Force To Get First Delivery Of Boeing’s Attack Helicopter By July

United States defence manufacturing giant Boeing will be delivering the first of 22 AH-64E Apache twin-turboshaft attack helicopters to the Indian Air Force (IAF) by July, a senior company official said on Thursday (21 February), reports.. "We are on plan to deliver the first of 22 Apache starting July. This will give significant combat capabilities (to the air force)," David Koopersmith, vice president and general manager, vertical lift, Boeing Defense, Space and Security was quoted in the report as saying. He added that the Apache helicopters being procured by India are likely to be delivered in batches. The Indian government had placed  an order with Boeing for 22 AH-64 E Apache attack and 15 CH-47 F Chinook heavy-lift helicopters in a $3 billion deal that was signed in September 2015. Pulwama attack mastermind Abdul Rasheed Ghazi killed by security forces in Kashmir

In a big breakthrough, security forces on Monday gunned down top Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) commander Abdul Rasheed Ghazi alias Kamran, in a 12-hour-long encounter with multiple JeM terrorists in Pulwama area. Ghazi was a Pakistani national and the brain behind the Pulwama attack. Punjab Governor Muhammad Sarwar has said that Pakistan is a peace-loving country but India shouldn't take Pakistan’s desire for peace as its weakness. According to a handout, the Punjab governor said if India tried to attack Pakistan, the whole nation would get united, stand with Pak Army and give befitting response to India. LCH at striking distance from being inducted in large numbers - Limited Series Production Initiated

The Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) is at striking distance from being inducted into the armed forces. The designers and test crew at Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (LTD) vouch for the LCH's might, with four prototypes having completed the pre-induction trials as mandated by the users—the Indian Air Force (IAF) and Indian Army. During a recent visit to the Rotary Wing Research and Design Centre (RWRDC) of HAL, Onmanorama was briefed by the officials about the future flightpath of the combat helicopter programme. The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) had cleared the proposal to induct an initial batch of 15 LCHs. Notwithstanding the final orders to formally come, HAL had gone ahead and began the process of manufacturing the limited series production (LSP) platforms. Of the 15 LSPs, 10 are for the IAF and the remaining five for the Indian Army. There’s an additional projection of 65 LCHs for the IAF and 97 for the Indian Army. Tejas MK-1 gets Final Operational Clearance, IAF to get a more lethal fighter

The government has already sanctioned Rs 1381.04 crore in March 2017 to ramp up the production capacity from the existing eight aircraft to 16 planes per annum. New Delhi: Tejas MK-1, India indigenous Ligh Combat Aircraft, received the Final Operational Clearance (FOC) in December 2018 and the Indian Air Force will soon start receiving an upgraded and a more lethal version of the fighter jet. Tejas MK-1 is being manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and is equipped with mid-air refuelling system, active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar, an electronic warfare array along with the capability to carry smart bombs to ensure pinpoint accuracy. First batch of four Chinook helicopters for IAF arrives in Gujarat

The Indian Air Force is currently using Mi-17 and Mi-26 helicopters, which are manufactured by Russia. MUNDRA: In a big boost for Indian defence forces, the first batch of four Chinook helicopters for the Indian Air Force (IAF) arrived at the Mundra airport in Gujarat on Sunday.  ANI reported that 15 Chinook helicopters are procured by Indian government from the United States.    These helicopters are manufactured by Boeing and Indian Air Force will induct these helicopters in its arsenal after thorough flight tests. The Indian Air Force is currently using Mi-17 and Mi-26 helicopters, which are manufactured by Russia. It is to be noted that Indian government has already spent USD 3 billion to buy 15 Chinook and 22 Apache attack helicopters and New Delhi has also the option to buy six more Apaches already approved by the US. Almost All Indian Missiles May Fall Under New Missile Treaty’s Limits, Expert Says

Almost all Indian missiles may fall under the limits of a potential new treaty on intermediate-range and shorter-range missiles that would involve an expanded list of counties, Vice President of India’s Observer Research Foundation Nandan Unnikrishnan told TASS. “If we imagine that such a treaty is made, then most of our ballistic missiles – the Agni class missiles – may fall under its limits,” he said. The expert pointed out that the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF Treaty) applied to land-based missiles of intermediate range (1,000-5,000 kilometers) and shorter range (500-1,000 kilometers). The bulk of India’s missile arsenal is made up of the Agni class missiles, including the Agni-1 missile with a range of 700-1000 kilometers, the Agni-2 with a range of 2,500-3,000 kilometers, the Agni-3 with a range of over 3,000 kilometers and the Agni-4 that has a range of up to 4,000 kilometers. UK, BAE Systems To Invite Indian Air Force To Co-Develop Sixth-Generation Stealth Fighter Aircraft ‘Tempest’

The United Kingdom will be inviting Indian Air Force (IAF) to co-develop a high-tech sixth-generation stealth fighter called the ‘Tempest’, reports  Business Standard . The concept of Tempest was unveiled last year during the Farnborough air show. According to the  Business Standard  report, a delegation from United Kingdom comprising of country’s Ministry of Defence (MoD) officials and executives from the British defence manufacturer BAE Systems will arrive on 18 February for the Aero India 2019 exhibition in Bengaluru.
